The so-called high-pressure treatment that takes place at Landspítalan has helped about 60 long-term covid patients to recover from the difficult aftereffects of the disease, such as brain fog, constant fatigue and persistent flu symptoms.

Helga Arnardóttir met two employees of the high pressure chamber at the Landspitalan, nurse Nanna Ólafsdóttir, who has worked there for a long time, and the Italian high pressure and diving doctor Leonardo Sturlu Giampaoli.

A new and better high-pressure chamber is now in use at Landspítala, replacing an older chamber. Hyperbaric chambers are known for providing treatment for diver's sickness, but are also used in the treatment of over 30 diseases. Hyperbaric Medicine
1991

In many countries, high-pressure medicine has been practiced for decades, although it is little known in Iceland and has only been used in a few cases of diving sickness. The Health Circle learned that Einar Sindrason, a doctor, lobbied to get them adopted in Iceland. We visited Einar and asked him what got him interested in this healing treatment.
